The Basics

What is pricing software?

Pricing software is an umbrella term for every tool that helps you decide, set, and manage prices, and the tools underneath it do very different jobs.

Broadly, the category splits into two families.

Internal tools price from your own data: cost-plus calculators, ERP add-ons, quote configurators, and enterprise suites that model demand from sales history.

Market-based platforms price from the outside in: live competitor data, verified product matching, and rules that turn market position into action.

Altosight is the second family, end to end.

Monitoring, matching, repricing, and optimization in one subscription, for both retailers and brands.

Below, we break down every type of pricing software, including the kinds we don't sell.

Altosight is built for retailers and brands who want to sell competitively and profitably, without an enterprise project.

Key distinction

Buying pricing software starts with one question: should prices come from your costs, your sales history, or your market? Everything else follows from that answer.

01
Retailers competing on price
Hold the right market position every day without losing the margin that pays for it.
02
Brands protecting price integrity
Monitor resellers, catch MAP violations with evidence, enforce with a paper trail.
03
Teams outgrowing spreadsheets
The first real pricing system after the VLOOKUP era. Live in 1 to 5 days.
04
Mid-market catalogs
From a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of products, any country, any currency.
05
Anyone allergic to enterprise projects
No data-science onboarding, no quarters-long deployment, no quote-only pricing.

Every kind of pricing software, mapped

Eight categories, one honest paragraph each. Find yours, then follow the link.

Market-based

Price monitoring software

The data layer everything else runs on.

Prices tracked across websites, marketplaces, and countries, on your schedule, matched to the right products.

Market-based

Competitor price tracking

Every seller behind every listing.

Focused rival coverage with stock status, refreshed daily or faster.

Market-based

Repricing software

Rules that act on the data.

Undercut, match, or hold position, inside min/max guardrails and profitability floors.

Market-based

Dynamic pricing software

Prices that move as the market moves.

Continuous, on strategies you can read and override. Never a black box.

Market-based

Price optimization software

The right price for margin, position, or both.

Optimized against live market data instead of a demand model.

Market-based

Pricing intelligence software

The full loop, monitoring through action.

Plus the analytics on top. We compared the whole category, tool by tool.

Internal

Price management software

Governance for internal price lists.

Approval workflows, channel consistency, audit trails. Closest to ERP territory, and usually paired with a market-based platform rather than replaced by one.

Brand-side

MAP monitoring & enforcement

The brand side of pricing software.

Track resellers, catch violations with evidence, and enforce minimum advertised prices.

What to Watch For

Where pricing software goes wrong

It disappoints in two ways: the wrong category for the job, or the right category done badly. Both are avoidable.

01 Same words, different tools

Six different tools, one label

Monitoring, repricing, optimization, intelligence, price management, MAP enforcement: six products that do different jobs, all sold as “pricing software.” The label hides the differences, which makes comparing them harder than it should be.
02 Right idea, rough tool

The right category, done badly

A dated interface, matching that never quite settles, an integration that stays in progress. The category was right; the execution wasn't. Public reviews tell this story often.
03 Enterprise-sized

More than the job needs

Elasticity AI is powerful, and a serious commitment: clean data, a pricing team, a deployment measured in quarters. For most mid-market retailers, it's more than the job requires.
04 Ask for the full bill

The cost arrives after the call

A growing share of vendors publish no prices, and add-ons appear after the contract. Budgeting well means asking the full-stack question early.

The Process

How Altosight covers the stack

Same five steps for retailers and brands, from a product file to a live, rule-driven catalog in one to five days.

01

Upload products for auto-match

Upload your products; we find them on competitor or reseller sites and match at 99.9%+ accuracy. With or without barcodes.

02

Set strategies and guardrails

Retailers: margin floors, position targets, min/max limits. Brands: MAP thresholds per product or reseller. Or tell us the goal and we build it.

03

Pick your mode

Let it update prices automatically, approve each change yourself, or just get alerts and suggestions. Switch anytime.

04

Monitor, reprice, enforce

Every refresh, prices update. Retailers see rules act inside their guardrails; brands get flagged violations with screenshot evidence.

05

Review, refine, relax

Price history shows what moved and why, for your prices or your resellers'. Tighten rules where you want more control.

What Clients Say

Real results from real retailers

From hours saved every week to accurate matching that just works. Here's what clients have told us about working with Altosight.

We moved from another repricing tool and we didn't know how much sales we were losing out on. Custom integration and support worked perfectly well and now we are trying to keep up with demand.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Pricing software is any tool that helps a business decide what to charge and keep those prices up to date. The name covers very different products, which is why the category is confusing.

Some tools work from your own numbers, like costs or past sales. Others work from the market: they collect competitor prices and help you respond to them. Altosight is the second kind.

There are eight, and the map above explains each one. In short: monitoring and competitor tracking collect the data. Repricing, dynamic pricing, and optimization act on it.

Pricing intelligence adds analysis on top, price management controls your internal price lists, and MAP monitoring helps brands keep resellers in line.

Most vendors sell one or two of these. Altosight covers the market-facing ones in a single platform.

Repricing means changing your prices according to rules you set. For example: stay 2% below the cheapest competitor, but never go below your cost.

Dynamic pricing means those changes happen automatically and continuously, as often as the market moves, instead of once a week by hand.

In good software they are the same feature. Altosight runs both from one set of rules you control.

It depends on the type. Market-based platforms start at around $49 per month with everything included; that is where Altosight sits.

Mid-market tools usually cost $100 to $800+ per month, and some vendors don't publish prices at all. Enterprise AI suites are custom-quoted and typically cost five to six figures per year.

One tip: ask what the full setup costs before you sign. Product matching, repricing, or extra channels are often sold as paid add-ons.

For retailers: price monitoring, product matching, repricing, and price optimization, in one subscription.

For brands: MAP monitoring and enforcement, so you can see which resellers break your minimum advertised price and act on it with evidence.

Every feature is included from $49 per month, with unlimited countries and currencies and matching accuracy above 99.9%. No per-module pricing.

Usually not. If a tool collects competitor prices, it should also be able to act on them. Buying monitoring from one vendor and repricing from another means data goes stale in between.

The exception is internal price-list management inside your ERP or accounting system. That can run alongside a market-based platform, because it handles a different job: your internal prices, not your competitors'.

For monitoring, any website or marketplace. No integration is needed on their side.

For pushing price changes to your own store, WooCommerce is supported natively, a Shopify app is in early access, and the API works on every plan for anything else.

Most accounts are fully live within 1 to 5 days, with onboarding included.
