The Basics

What is MAP monitoring software?

It automatically tracks the prices your retailers advertise online, and alerts you the moment any listing falls below your minimum advertised price (MAP) policy.

Without it, your team spends hours manually checking listings across retailers and marketplaces. Even at small scale — 20 products and 5 retailers — the cost of weekly manual checking is already higher than the software itself.

MAP monitoring software replaces the entire manual process with automated, scheduled crawls, AI-powered product matching verified by humans, and enforcement-ready reports.

Key distinction

MAP monitoring is different from general competitor price tracking. It specifically protects your pricing integrity within your own distribution network: the retailers and resellers authorized to sell your products.

01
Crawl retailer websites on your schedule
Daily, weekly, multiple times per day, or at specific times and days you choose.
02
Match products with AI + human verification
Works even without EAN, UPC, ASIN or SKU. Over 99.9% accuracy.
03
Compare every price to your MAP policy
Supports different MAP per country and currency, automatically.
04
Flag MAP violations with timestamped records
Full evidence ready for enforcement outreach immediately.
05
Track seller history and patterns
Who violates, how often, by how much. Across every retailer.
Beyond the US

MAP vs MSRP vs RRP — and monitoring outside the US

Three acronyms, three levels of control. Knowing which one governs each of your markets decides what “compliance” even means, and what you can do about it.

MAP — Minimum Advertised Price

The lowest price a retailer may advertise. Primarily a US concept. A well-drafted MAP policy is enforceable, which is why minimum advertised price monitoring pairs naturally with an enforcement workflow.

MSRP — Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

The price you suggest the product sells at. It anchors perceived value and channel margins, but on its own it's guidance. MSRP monitoring tracks how far the market drifts from it.

RRP — Recommended Retail Price

The term used across Europe and most of the world. In the EU, minimum resale prices generally can't be imposed on retailers. RRP monitoring is about visibility: who deviates, by how much, how often, and in which countries.

Same platform, different rules

Set MAP, MSRP, or RRP values per product, per country, per currency. Altosight checks every captured price against the right one automatically.

US brands run the full detect-and-enforce loop. European and global brands turn RRP deviation data into leverage, no formal enforcement required:

  • Allocate trade budget — steer co-op spend, support, and stock toward the retailers who hold your price.
  • Control promo activity — verify agreed promotions run at the right price, in the right countries, and actually end on time.
  • Watch non-client sellers — track resellers you have no contract with, including gray-market stock, before they reset your market price.
Why It Matters

Without MAP monitoring, you don't have a policy — you have a suggestion

MAP compliance rarely breaks overnight. It drifts: a seller here, a channel there, a little more each quarter. Here's what consistent monitoring protects, and why catching drift early costs far less than reversing it later.

01

Price erosion chips away at brand value

Builds over time
One retailer drops below MAP. Others follow to stay competitive. Over time the advertised price drifts down and settles there. Early visibility keeps one seller's discount from quietly becoming your new market price.
02

Channel conflict strains partner trust

Partner trust at stake
Your best retailers invest in your brand, and they watch how you protect it. When undercutting goes unaddressed, their margin and their motivation shrink. Consistent, even-handed enforcement is what keeps strong partners committed to carrying your products.
03

Manual tracking doesn't scale

Team hours add up
A person can reliably check 50–100 products per day. Software handles thousands in minutes, at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated team member. Your team's time is better spent acting on violations than hunting for them.
04

Enforcement requires evidence

Evidence gets results
Retailers respond to timestamped records, specific prices, and documented patterns. MAP software gives you exactly that evidence, so enforcement outreach lands professionally and gets resolved the first time.

How the options compare

Manual Tracking
Typical Pricing Tools
With Altosight
Products monitored daily
~50–100, limited by team time
Thousands — but plan tiers cap SKUs, with big jumps between them
Thousands — no practical ceiling
Time to detect a violation
Hours to days
Same-day on higher tiers — check frequency is often plan-gated
Same-day, on your schedule
Retailer & marketplace coverage
What the team has time to visit regularly
Usually just the Buy Box or lowest price on marketplaces
Every seller on each product page — marketplaces + any retailer site
Multi-country & currency
Spreadsheets get unwieldy across regions
Often one MAP value per product — multi-country setups get manual
Different MAP per country & currency, fully automatic
Reporting & audit trail
Compiled manually, often scattered
Dashboards and alerts; evidence depth varies and often costs extra
Customizable, exportable, fully timestamped
Monthly cost
Full-time employee time
From ~$99/mo — MAP often gated to higher tiers; API & add-ons extra
From $49/month — matching, MAP & free API included

Evaluation Criteria

Key features to look for in MAP monitoring software

Not all MAP monitoring tools are equal. Here's what separates the ones that actually work from the ones that leave you frustrated six months in.

Broad retailer coverage

Direct retailer sites, major marketplaces, price comparison engines, and niche platforms. Anywhere your products are sold. Amazon-only is not enough.

AI matching, verified by humans

Over 99.9% accuracy. Matches work even when retailers have missing or inconsistent identifiers: EAN, UPC, ASIN, SKU. Human verification on edge cases.

Multi-country & currency

Set different MAP policies per country or currency. Monitor in local currency and compare against the right regional price, automatically.

Flexible monitoring schedule

Daily, weekly, multiple times per day, specific times and days — you choose the exact cadence. Always your schedule, never the vendor's.

Seller-level intelligence

Not just the Buy Box. Every seller on every product page, tracked over time, with repeat-offender detection and seller history.

Customizable reports & alerts

Fully customizable, exportable, and filterable reports. Real-time alerts via email or API webhooks — built for operations teams to act on immediately.

04

Monitor automatically

Over 99.9% matching accuracy with AI + human review, running on the exact schedule you choose.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

MAP monitoring and competitor price tracking aren't the same thing:

  • MAP monitoring protects your own distribution network — the retailers and resellers authorized to sell your products. The goal is enforcement of your pricing policy.
  • Competitor price tracking looks at the broader market. It's typically used by retailers, not brands.

Altosight handles both, so brands selling direct-to-consumer can use the same platform for either job.

Over 99.9% across all matching scenarios.

Our AI-powered matching works even when retailers have inconsistent or missing identifiers (EAN, UPC, ASIN, SKU) — it uses product titles, images, and attribute similarity.

Every match goes through human verification on edge cases, so you start from a clean baseline on day one.

Most clients are fully live within 1 to 5 days.

The main variables are catalog size and how many custom retailers you need covered. No technical resources needed. The platform handles import, matching, and validation itself, and when you want us in the loop, customized onboarding and hands-on help are included.

Yes. Altosight supports the full enforcement flow:

Enforcement runs on top of monitoring as part of the platform, so your team can act on violations from the same place they're detected. That includes marketplaces — see our dedicated Amazon MAP monitoring & enforcement page. If enforcement automation is a priority, mention it on the call and we'll walk you through the workflow.

Plans start from $49/month.

Pricing scales with your catalog size, retailer count, check frequency, and any custom needs — every quote is tailored to your specific scenario. The easiest next step is a quick call or message to our team. We'll send a custom quote within 24 hours.

Yes. We offer a 14-day free trial covering up to 50 products across 3 websites and 1 marketplace — with full product access.

If you decide to move to a paid plan after the trial, we give you full access to your complete account first — so you can confirm everything is set up the way you want before we send any invoice.

No credit card required upfront.

Yes to both:

  • Free API access is included with every plan. Pull your data, push updates, automate whatever you need.
  • Custom integrations with your existing tools (ERP, PIM, repricing software, BI platforms) are available as a paid service — we build the bridge for you.
  • DIY integrations are always an option: if you have engineering resources, you can build your own connections using our API at no extra cost.

Yes. You can set MAP, MSRP, or RRP values per product, per country, and per currency — every captured price is evaluated against the right value for its market automatically.

Brands outside the US typically use this for RRP monitoring: tracking which retailers deviate from the recommended retail price, by how much, and how often — then managing it through retailer conversations and distribution decisions rather than US-style MAP enforcement.
